Marty Vandenberghe, rest in peace, my friend

Marty and I at Herald's Christmas Show on December 10, 2011

Marty (the one on the right in the brown hat) and I at the Herald's Christmas show in December 10, 2011.

Marty is a long time barbershopper. I had the pleasure singing with him in my first quartet in Tampa. We called ourselves TB4 - Russ Powell on lead, Roger McLaughlin on tenor, Marty on bari and I sang bass. We had a good time and did some good singing, especially when we were delivering Singing Valentines and Marty was the driver who knew every little side street to get there the fastest.

Marty has been long fighting with the pancreatic cancer. He was successfully operated about 3 years ago and returned singing with the Heralds, but the desease is still creeping. He passed away in the night of November 11, 2014 at home. We visited him on October 28, and even sang for him some Polecat songs while he was correcting my bari notes by pointing the finger up or down.

He gave me the whole box of old barbershop LP's that I'm now digitizing. For a small donation ($5 min.) you'll get access to the database.

Here are some of the LP's in his barbershop collection:
